Cross-disciplinary Collaboration
Encounters and Visual Arts
Dysnomia live / Albertine Laureate 2025
Dysnomia Live is a unique and immersive collaboration between two artists: Thomas Julienne, double bassist and composer, and Alexandre Dupeyron, photographer. The narrative of the performance is based on the book Dysnomia, published in 2022 by Alexandre Dupeyron. After several duo experiments, the current form has been expanded to include the quintet Theorem of Joy for a composition written by Thomas Julienne; this work was also performed in collaboration with the Fanglao Dance Company in Laos.
This photo-concert is a back-and-forth dialogue—an immersive experience where the synergy between image and music intertwines seamlessly, inviting the audience into a realm where the boundaries between sight and sound fade away, creating a hypnotic journey.
Far from offering answers, this performance invites us to reflect on the three ontological questions:
Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?
This creation is designed to remain open to experimentation and dialogue with other artistic forms.

Live Drawing Concert
Claude’ Journey
Claude’s Journey is a show for young audiences that combines music and live drawing to tell the touching adventures of little Claude. This work has a dual purpose:
To offer a reflection on failure and its possible resolution, woven subtly into the story.
To introduce children to jazz and help them discover the specificities of this music.
The repertoire was composed by Thomas Julienne and Maxime Berton. Sophie Bataille, illustrator and traveler, enriches the story with her drawings projected live, turning each moment into a vivid and interactive painting. Premiered in November 2023 in partnership with the Théâtre des 4 Saisons (a certified cultural venue), Claude’s Journey is an invitation to laugh, dream, and travel together, carried by artists who know how to make every moment magical and unforgettable for both children and adults.

Music for Image
Les “Proies” by Marine de Contes
Les Proies (“The Prey”), directed by Marine de Contes, is an anthropological documentary exploring the disappearance of forests, animals, and human traditions linked to hunting. The film questions our relationship with living beings, oscillating between nature conservation and exploitation. The original score, composed by Thomas Julienne, subtly and deeply supports the narrative. Awarded at Cinéma du Réel and acclaimed in several festivals, Les Proies is a powerful work where Thomas Julienne’s music magnifies the director’s sensitive gaze.
The Art of Cine-Concert
Thomas Julienne co-composed and performed the music for two notable cine-concerts :
● Tabu by F. W. Murnau, with United Fools — where his organic and improvised music dialogues with the film’s visual poetry, enhancing its dramatic intensity.
● L’Inhumaine by Marcel L’Herbier, with the reQ Quartet — where he explores a sonic palette mixing modern and classical textures to elevate the avant-garde aesthetics of the film.
Through these projects, Thomas Julienne demonstrates a unique ability to merge into the cinematic experience, making music a key element of both narrative and emotion.
