Thomas Julienne is a double bassist, composer, and arranger who continuously draws from encounters and collaborations to nourish his music. Known for his eclectic style and insatiable curiosity, he brings energy and innovation to the music scene.

He trained under renowned French double bass masters such as Jean-Paul Macé, Kent Carter, Gilles Naturel, and Jean-Philippe Viret. He developed his skills in orchestration and arrangement alongside specialists Christophe Dal Sasso and Carine Bonnefoy.

Thomas is best known for his work with Theorem of Joy, where he serves as leader, bassist, and composer. Their third album, Feux, is set to be released in 2025.

He also directs the Orchid Big Band, a large ensemble of 19 musicians.

At the crossroads of visual arts, he composes the music for Dysnomia Live, an immersive performance created in collaboration with photographer Alexandre Dupeyron. With Claude Trio and watercolorist Sophie Bataille, he created Claude’s Journey, a live-drawing concert for young audiences.

In synergy with electronic music, he collaborates with DJ Click on projects commissioned by RFI International (Science Fiction, Sudan, Laos).

Trained in film scoring and computer-assisted music production, he expands his skill set to include commissioned works for image-based media.

Always driven by the desire to explore new artistic territories, he shares his experience as a double bassist with various ensembles and musicians around the world.

As an educator, he draws inspiration from the teaching practices observed at the Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood. He earned his State Diploma in jazz double bass under the mentorship of Jean-Philippe Viret.

With a background in sociology, Thomas applies his academic insights to the cultural sector. He co-founded the jazz collective and label Déluge and serves on the board of Grands Formats.
