A Differentiated Vision of Learning
Thomas Julienne adopts a differentiated approach to learning, adapting to the needs, abilities, and aspirations of each student. He believes that musical learning cannot be reduced to a single, universal method. Thus, he strives to personalise his pedagogical approaches, taking into account each student’s pace of assimilation, artistic sensitivities, and individual goals.
For Thomas, transmitting lasting knowledge involves offering a variety of tailored tools : oral learning, sheet music reading, imitation, and improvisation. Each of these methods opens different paths toward musical autonomy. He ensures that every student finds their own balance between technique and artistic expression, cultivating both solid foundations and room for experimentation.
By adapting pieces to his students’ interests and preferred musical styles, he enables them to take full ownership of their progression while upholding a fundamental principle : that music remains a source of joy and sharing.
Mediation in Action
Thomas Julienne and his collaborators seek to transform conventional care environments into spaces of expression and creativity, fostering a dynamic of interaction and mutual respect among residents, care staff, and the artists involved.
His experience in MAS (Specialised Care Homes) and hospitals focuses on integrating artistic practice into the care and well-being of both residents and healthcare professionals. He collaborates with artist Isabelle Kraiser on a project at the Simone de Beauvoir Care Home and the Yves Buffet Specialised Care Home (MAS), part of the Charles Perrens psychiatric hospital.
This project aims to share an artistic universe that frees the body and mind from habits, prejudices, and limiting beliefs about individual and collective potential. By questioning notions of normality and abnormality, it opens spaces of expressiveness where the only boundary is respect for the participants’ integrity.
