Leader and composer

Bringing Imagination to Life

Learder - Theorem Of Joy

For Thomas Julienne, Theorem of Joy is a heartfelt project where he steps forward as leader, composer, and double bassist. Here, he fully explores his relationship with the group, surrounded by singular partners chosen through a process both deliberate and intimate.

The group charts new paths at the forefront of 21st-century French music. These five musicians, heirs to the European musical tradition and shaped by cultural crossovers, cast their gaze toward the future.

Theorem of Joy offers a brilliant, hybrid jazz, blending North African colours, post-rock flights, and the smooth flavours of pop. The music is mysterious, full-bodied, and intoxicating.

But are we really lost? All it takes is to surrender to the flow of sensations and sonic flashes. Theorem of Joy unfolds new horizons, woven from images, words, and endless possibilities.

Everything connects, disconnects, and feeds the imagination sparked by the group’s sound.

Feux, the quintet’s third album, will be released on 19/09/2025.

Press

‘Thomas Julienne proves once again that he is one of the most thoughtful and singular composers of his generation. Tireless in his work ethic, unafraid to challenge form, and continually evolving, Julienne crafts albums not as products but as worlds unto themselves. Feux doesn’t fit neatly into the European jazz landscape, it overflows its edges.’
PARIS MOVE / Thierry Clemensat

“An album rich with an ambitious orchestral
dimension, its shimmering arrangements imbued
with a chiaroscuro magic, offering this fine ensemble
the chance to express all its qualities.”
JAZZ MAGAZINE / Yazid Kouloughli

“Devilishly clever, and playing with the codes too.
This is music that doesn’t seek to please at all costs
but captivates nonetheless—because it’s brilliant
without being flashy.”
